About the Artists
Kindred Spirits Workshop is an interactive music and cultural learning environment for student’s grades 5-12, taught by husband and wife duo Greg & Jamie Kellicut. Greg is a professional drummer/percussionist, songwriter, teaching artist and environmental educator. Jamie is a Lac Courte Oreilles tribal member, professional singer/songwriter, teaching artist, and inspirational speaker. By combining songwriting, singing and drumming, they welcome students to present their own ideas and themes for positive lyrics, while expressing their musical creativity. Previous music experience isn’t necessary. Greg & Jamie’s goal for students is an understanding of Native American and world cultures and how we are all connected, with music as the foundation. Their hope is that the workshop will be a positive change in the student’s lives, and their communities to ultimately create a better world for us all.

The following sections combine to work with each grade level. By the end of the workshop students will have a completed song to perform, with the addition of percussion instruments. If the school has a music department, the students have the option of adding other instruments (if available) with the building’s permission.

We Are All Connected
Through contemporary songwriting, students learn how Ojibwe storytelling connects us to each other, our communities, and Mother Earth. Students will share ideas and create their own song by learning the process of songwriting.

Finding Your Voice
Students learn the fun and joy of singing while gaining confidence and discovering the unique performer in each of them. They will learn singing and performing techniques and the experience of singing as a group.

The Power of Drums
Students will explore world percussion, including Native American and other cultures of interest. They will learn the power and healing of drumming through drum circles while playing different percussion instruments.
